We always, always, ALWAYS
minus that one time when we moved to Germany and into a house less than a week before Christmas have a real Christmas tree.
AND we almost always cut that tree down ourselves. As a family.
I could sit here and say I understand the draws of a fake tree; but I’d be lying. I don’t get it. At all. And don’t want to. #sorrynotsorry
I have to say, years ago, before the littles, we would go pick our tree and cut it down and that was that.
Now, we need layers and layers of clothing that come off while in the carseats and then come back on before they freeze when we get to the Christmas Tree Farm and then come back off when we get back into the car.
We need to have a sled to pull the kids around in and then to put the tree on once cut. And then when the tree takes their spots we need to convince Little Miss she is FIVE and can walk herself, and either walk super slow with Bug or forfeit and carry him, and then wear Bear.
Using a saw is fascinating and we need to be sure that they are aware that while it is indeed fascinating it is also dangerous and that they should NOT just stick their cute, little hands under the tree while daddy is sawing.
Snacks. Remember those days when you could leave the house and didn’t have to have an entire grocery store aisle worth of food options in your possession at all times? I don’t. Our littles are snackers. They will snack all day long if we let them. And, let’s be real, when we are out and about it is sometimes just easier to let them.
So, what once was a nice little outing is now an epic, time consuming, family adventure!
But I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Do you guys decorate a real tree or a fake tree? Do you cut your own tree down? Any fun tree traditions in your family?
Well, there you have it, it’s been just another Manic Mom-day!
