This week’s book is…
Daddy Honk Honk! by Rosalinde Bonnet.*
This is a cute little book about an arctic fox who finds an egg left behind. When the baby hatches he thinks the fox is his daddy. The little fox wanders around learning about what babies need.
It ends on a sweet note of all babies needing love.
This book prompted a discussion with the kids about what babies need.
Little Miss said things like healthy food and milk. Our Cuddle Bug said things that Little Miss said, milk and food and diapers. He also said that “it’s hard”, which I cannot disagree with.
It can be hard.
Worth it though!
I asked them what they would name a baby and Bug said “Mommy and Daddy!” He certainly knows how to earn those brownie points. Little Miss said “Roseapedal” which I think is some twist on Roosevelt. I asked her what if she had a boy and she made a face like that was the most ridiculous notion and then answered “banana”. And chuckled. So I guess it’s safe to say she sees herself having a girl.
I took this fun conversation to the table and pulled out the crayons!
I asked them to draw what they think Daddy looked like as a baby.
And this is what Little Miss came up with.
Bug said it was too hard and just drew a tower.
Then, to be fair, I asked them to draw what they think Mommy looked like as a baby.
I was expecting more focus on the baby and less on Gramma and Grampa; but still pretty cute artwork!!
Thirteen books down, thirteen weeks down!
Have you read this book?! Are you brave enough to ask your kids to draw you?!
