This week’s book is…
Daddies Are for Catching Fireflies by Harriet Ziefert.*
This was a cute book about things Daddies do.
AND we got to change it up a bit as this is a flap book!
We don’t have many of these because my littles are still, well, little and littles are rough on books!
Every time I come across a cute flap book or pop up book I instantly have visions of me finding one of our littles hiding in their closets ripping the book to bits! *cringe*
I am pretty crazy about my books. So the fact that the kids are even allowed to touch their books is a huge step for me. Seriously, I’m a tad crazy.
If I lend you a book, it’s a pretty big deal! It means I trust you and that we must be good friends.
OK, enough about my crazy…
This book was fun!
It even ends on a cute note of how Daddy sometimes I love that they specified that puts them to bed and reads them a story and then falls asleep too!
This is so what happens in our house! It makes me chuckle every time we read it.
We specifically enjoyed talking about what it will be like when Daddy gets to come home.
With that topic in mind, we made our own flap book page!
I cut three sides of a door out of a piece of card stock. Then I creased the “hinged” edge by folding it.
I took a second piece of card stock and double sided taped it to the other one.
The littles were super excited about the whole surprise under the flap thing. I told them to draw it as if Daddy was coming through the door.
Little Miss definitely understands the need for all the green when it comes to the Army uniform.
just went with pretty colors and yelled surprise! when he opened his flap and showed me! Pretty adorable this one.
went with the prompt and drew a picture of Daddy in uniform standing outside our door. She then concocted a whole story of how we will be hiding inside with the lights off and that I will put my arm up and then drop it to signal her and her brother’s to yell surprise!
This one has a knack for planning parties.
She realized after drawing herself that she accidentally drew it upside down! So it looked like Daddy was hanging by his toes in the door way. She was pretty upset by this; but Mommy to the rescue!
Since I just used double sided tape it was easy enough to separate the two sheets of paper and flip the Daddy one.
She was amazed! #mommywin
I’d say this project was a success!
Seventeen books down, seventeen weeks down!
