{work trip wednesdays: My Daddy Rules the World}

This week’s book is…

My Daddy Rules the World: Poems about Dads

My Daddy Rules the World by Hope Anita Smith.*

This is a cute collection of poems about Dad.

I think the littles’ favorite in this collection is When Daddy is Sleeping.

{work trip wednesdays} poems2

They think that anything and everything to do with snoring is hilarious these days. Grampa taught them how to fake snore and now even Little Bear is doing it!

I decided to sit down with the three littles and write some poems.

Because you are never too young to be a poet!

It was interesting trying to explain the art of writing poems to them; but this is what we ended up with.

Little Miss…

I miss you

I love you

I want you to come home

…but you can’t.

Well, that one certainly hits Mom in the feels.

Cuddle Bug…

Be safe

Be strong

Be loved

Be big

Be brave

Be loved

Bug actually told me two poems…

Daddy misses me

Daddy misses helping me clean

Daddy misses baking with me

Daddy misses building with me

Daddy misses playing with me

Daddy misses my help

Daddy misses cuddling with me *with no bear*

Daddy misses sticking his tongue out at me

Daddy misses me

This guy has been missing Daddy pretty hard lately. Just last night he was asking if it was time for Daddy to come home yet. *insert all the tears here*

Little Bear…

He thinks he’s so funny because he calls everyone Mom.

They’re poets and they didn’t know it!

Such a terrible joke, that will forever get use.

Twenty books down, twenty weeks down!

Have you read this book?!

Have you tried writing poetry with your littles?!

*click on the book cover, or title and it will link you to where you can purchase them! these are affiliate links, so if you make a purchase my blog will make some money and then i can keep on blogging! so that would be awesome!*

  1. Awww… This one made me cry. I esp. love the 2nd poem by C. And the last line of A’s caught my breath. Can you send these to him or have them framed for when he’s home?
You’re such a great teacher as well as Mom. I have 9th graders who said they had never really written poetry before I did a unit last Spring. Your “littles” will be well ahead. 🤓

    1. i share these with him!
i helped with the shaping; but bug said the first line of both and then i just asked “what else should dad be?” or “what else does daddy miss?”
little miss has read a few poetry books with me and just the other day had come up to me reciting a poem she wrote while cleaning her room.
definitely creating little english nerds; but i’m super ok with that!! 🤓
