This week’s book is…
I Miss You! a military kid’s book about deployment by Beth Andrews.*
This is a sweet little work book that explains what
deployments a work trip is and different ways to cope with missing your military parent.
Mom probably should have planned this out a little bit better and had them open this one in the beginning of this work trip. My bad!
It has pages about the feelings work trips can cause. Pages about how to cope with the different feelings. Pages about how to stay in touch with your working parent. And pages about how other kids are going through the same thing.
I love that this one is a work book! It really helps the littles discuss what is going on in their little heads. Missing someone can be such a hard emotion for a grown up who understands what the feeling is, the littles have it so much harder.
AND YOU GUYS! This is the first book that actually discusses what it is like for the parent who is manning the home front while the military parent is away.
THIS IS EVERYTHING!
It was nice to be able to read this page to the littles and have it explain how Mommy might be extra tired or more sad than usual or super busy because she is trying to do everything herself.
Seriously, thank you Beth Andrews!
It also explains about how Daddy does not actually want to leave his littles; but that he has an important job to do. It talks about how he will come home as soon as he can and that he may not be able to tell you exactly when that will be.
For this book I made some copies of some of the pages for the littles to do.
First thing we did was talk about the different feelings that can come up during work trips.
Little Bear unintentionally picked angry; but it is pretty on point for him and his feelings.
Next, we colored pictures of how they will feel when Daddy finally comes home.
Cuddle Bug talked about how he was going to color his face blue. I asked if he was going to be blue when Daddy gets home and he assured me that he would paint it before he gets back. I don’t think I like this plan…
Little Miss colored a picture of herself and then added all the details of the party she wants to throw for Daddy when he gets home. Complete with green streamers, green ornaments, and moving her green rug out to the party. Any guesses as to what Daddy’s favorite color is?
Twenty-six books down, twenty-six weeks down!
Have you read this book?!
