Last week I started this Work Trip wrap up by sharing our top five favorite books from the count down.
This week, I wanted to wrap it up with a post about our five favorite activities that we paired with five of the books. Some of them may over lap with last week’s; but all five were our most enjoyable!
These are our top five picks, in no particular order.
First on our list of top five is the very first book we opened…
Daddy Cuddles by Anne Gutman & Georg Hellensleben.*
A book about different animal daddies cuddling with their littles. To make this fun for the littles I grabbed some of their different stuffed animals and asked them to show me how those animals would cuddle.
How cute are all these cuddles?!
I thought it was so funny how they thought different animals would cuddle. I think Bug’s sea turtle cuddles were my favorite!
Second book in our top five is…
Daddy’s Boots by Sandra Miller Linhart.*
After reading a book about the things Daddy’s work boots help him do, I thought it would be fitting to create an obstacle course for them to work their way through while wearing a pair of Daddy’s army boots!
Their goal was to make it through it all to save their stuff animals from the monster holding them captive in Little Miss’ bed tent.
It was so much fun for everyone!
Our third pick is…
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn.*
This cute book is technically about going to school; but it teaches a very sweet way to say ‘see you later’ to someone you love. To go along with this book we all made tracings of our hands, decorated them or colored them in, and then cut them out. Before sending them to Daddy we kissed the palms and sent our kisses to Daddy during his work trip.
Daddy loved receiving these and kept them with him. He even returned with them!
Our fourth pick is…
Hug Machine by Scott Campbell.*
A sweet little book about a boy who just cannot get enough hugs! So we wanted to send Daddy some hugs from his little hug machines.
We traced them with their arms spread wide and then they got to color in their smiles and their hair and such. We rolled them up and sent them off to Daddy so he could have some long distance hugs.
Lastly, our fifth pick is…
Dad and the Dinosaur by Gennifer Choldenko & Dan Santat.*
This one again! After reading this book about overcoming fears we created some silly shadows on the wall. This showed the littles how sometimes simple toys or things can cast big shadows that create fear.
They enjoyed making silly shadows on the wall with all sorts of things they could find in their room, including a stinky foot.
Well, those are our top five favorite activities from our countdown!
Will you do any of these activities with your littles?!
Do your littles love craft time?!
