{decorating our tree}

Have kids they said.

It will be fun they said.

I don’t know who this “they” is; but they have a different definition of fun than i do…

You think that the holidays will be full of magic and fun and memory making, right?

Well if by ‘magic’ you mean the magic of the disappearing candy canes, and if by ‘fun’ you mean the fun of chasing down the cat as he runs off with a bird ornament in his mouth, and if by ‘memory making’ you mean making a pile of broken ornament memories – well, then sure! You would be correct!

Don’t get me wrong, there are fun times and lots of memories to be made.

One of the most fun parts this year has been decorating the tree.

Over.

And over.

And over.

And over again.

All. The. Face Palms.

I mean fun! All the fun.

Yup, that’s what I mean.

Between the cat and the two year old the tree just isn’t staying decorated for more than five minutes.

I’m honestly surprised that the tree is even still standing at this point.

I’ll probably be eating those words now that I said it “out loud”.

Little Miss saw candy canes on our friend’s tree and then had to have them on our tree. We put them on one night before bed and the next morning, within an hour of being awake, Little Bear had stolen and snacked on four candy canes. So mom took all but four of them off the tree and hid them. The last four are on the very top and I go to bed with visions of…

…in my head.

Luckily, most of our ornaments are plastic, so when they go soaring through the air and into the wall they don’t break.

It’s all fun and cute until it’s two am and there’s a cat running across the kitchen floor after a loud rolling ornament and then banging into cabinets. I reiterate, luckily they’re plastic.

And then there are the ornaments that we gift each other each year. These ones are not all plastic…

In the past, we have had a few minor broken ornaments here and there.

This year…we are up to five and it’s not even Christmas yet.

Apparently, we have accumulated a few bird ornaments through the years and these seem to be the cat’s favorite. He “catches” them from the tree and then takes off carrying them in his mouth as he runs to hide under our bed with his “kill”.

I have a feeling packing up the decorations this year is going to take a lot of searching and that I’ll probably be finding ornaments until July. Or next Christmas.

Well, there goes another ornament, it’s been just another Manic Momday!

Does your tree survive the season?!

What’s your tree’s biggest enemy in your house?!
