Merry third day of Christmas!
On the third day of Christmas my bookshelf gave to me
three old friends,
two shrinking twits,
and one big Holy Shit! moment!
For the third day of Christmas I read…
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling*.
I did not realize how much I missed Harry, Ron, and Hermione until I was two lines into this book. It was one of those books that you can’t put down, you lose sleep over it, and you just want to cry about the fact that it’s over when you get to the end. Not like cry because it’s a sad ending; but just cry that these friends are leaving you again and you just want to hang out some more.
Back in sixth grade I was in my school’s library looking for something new to read when our librarian came over and handed me Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I had never heard of this Harry Potter or Hogwarts or Hagrid, I didn’t know of anyone else who had read them; but boy did I fall in love with these characters and this world that Rowling created.
This book picks up at platform 9 3/4, with Harry and Ginny and their two sons. It takes you along for a crazy Harry Potter adventure; but with two, extremely unlikely, friends. Even though this one was written as a play, it still had that same feeling as all the other Harry Potter stories. It took you back to the magical world and seamlessly added in the new characters, while still including the originals. I don’t want to give too much away in case I ruin it for someone…so I’ll just stop now. READ IT!
After returning to Hogwarts I now want to introduce the book world to Little Miss. She has enjoyed all but the last two movies with us; but we all know the book is always better. Always. Maybe for her upcoming birthday…
Stay tuned for what my book shelf will bring me tomorrow!
