{on the ninth day of christmas…}

Merry ninth day of Christmas!

On the ninth day of Christmas my bookshelf gave to me

nine winning pointers,

eight worlds (plus Asgard),

seven billion people,

six little children,

five “hill-bill-ies”,

four family foes,

three old friends,

two shrinking twits,

and one big Holy Shit! moment!

For the ninth day of Christmas I read…

You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero*.

This is not my usual kind of read; but I had heard a lot about this one, so when I saw it was available at my library I snagged it!

She had a lot of great things to say about pumping up your own ego and being more confident in yourself. And in an odd way it left me feeling super motivated. What to do with that motivation I hadn’t a clue; but hey, I felt ready! It was kind of like how I felt while reading The $100 Startup* at the beginning of 2018. I found while reading this book I would get so motivated to start things that I would actually have to stop reading because I couldn’t focus on the words anymore.

In You Are A Badass, Jen Sincero talks about how everyone needs to love oneself and she lists some of the best ways to do so…

  1. Appreciate how special you are.
  2. Drown yourself in affirmations.
  3. Do things you love.
  4. Find a replacement.
  5. Ditch the self-deprecating humor.
  6. Let the love in.
  7. Don’t compare yourself to others.
  8. Forgive yourself.
  9. Love yourself.

It’s funny how this one timed out in The Twelve Days of Christmas, as all of these things sound like great things to work towards in the new year!

Stay tuned for what my book shelf will bring me tomorrow!

Do you like the “self-help” genre?
